Cosmetic Procedures Overview
There are many procedures available to men and women considering cosmetic medical procedures. Ensuring you choose the right one for you is a decision you should make together with your Doctor.
All Fellows of the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery are specifically trained in cosmetic medicine and surgery and are required by the College to maintain their skills through a Continuing Professional Development program.
Laser/IPL Treatment of Blood Vessels
| Procedure: | Reduction of "broken capillaries", birthmarks such as port wine stains, rosacea. |
| Length: | Depends on size of area to be treated - few minutes to half an hour. May need series of treatments. |
| Anesthesia: | Usually none required for adults, but babies and young children may require sedation or general anaesthetic. |
| Side Effects: | Temporary redness and swelling, bruising. Rarely colour change of the skin or scarring. |
| Duration: | New capillaries may dilate. Birthmarks don't always completely fade and may redarken. |
